Free Eye and Dental Health Camp at Paropakar Adarsha Higher Secondary School

On June 10, 2016 Daya Foundation organized free eye and dental health camp for the students studying from class 1 to 7 of Paropakar Adarsha Higher Secondary School, Bhimsensthan, Kathmandu. The camp was conducted in collaboration with Kalimati Dental Home. About 115 students from the school were benefitted with vision screening and basic eye & dental check up.

This free eye and dental health camp organized in the school supported students with low socio economic status to get free dental and eye health check up. The foundation will also support the follow up treatment of each student.

Vision Screening and Eye Check Up: About 115 students participated in the vision screening session organized at Paropakar Adarsha Higher Secondary School. They also received basic eye-check up from eye specialist of Dhulikhel hospital Dr. Raju Kaiti and Dr. Sabair from USA. Out of 115 students, about 30 cases of eye problems such as refractive error, excessive flow of tear, redness of eye and whiteness around the pupil was identified in the students. The event was managed through the senior class students and Daya Foundation volunteers who had received a basic training on vision screening prior to the health camp.

Dental Check Up: The dental team of Kalimati Dental Home (Dr. Anju Joshi and 2 medical assistants) along with 4 volunteers from the school helped to organize the Dental Check up. Altogether 115 students were benefited from the dental camp, and received immediate dental treatment that was required. 46 cases have been referred for follow-up treatment at the Kalimati dental clinic.

The team also gave basic information on oral health and hygiene to the students. Following the check up, each student was provided with a hygiene packet which included a toothbrush, toothpaste, antiseptic hand wash soap, oral hygiene brochure, a packet of biscuit and a banana.

Awareness Session: An awareness session was also conducted parallel to the checkups where Mallika Shrestha, health officer of Daya Foundation gave classes on proper brushing technique and hand washing techniques.
